Our Specialized Laser Unit: ProHealth Physiotherapy is using medical grade laser built by Theralase (www.theralase.com). The advanced laser controller unit can be connected to 3 different probes, depending on the therapeutic effect desired: a single probe, a triple probe, and a multiple probe. The single (point) probe has only one invisible laser emitter, and is used for very local applications or needle-free acupuncture. The triple probe has one invisible laser emitter (905 nm) and two visible red emitters (660nm). The multiple probe has 5 invisible laser emitters and 4 visible red laser emitters. The combination between the super pulsed invisible laser light (905 nm) and the continuous wave visible red laser light (660nm) allow simultaneous superficial and deep (up to 4”) laser treatment, thus activating all three known cellular pathways.
Therapeutic Laser Treatment provides patients with a safe, effective and painless therapy that uses the body’s own natural healing systems to relieve pain, increase joint mobility, increase tissue integrity and promote cell regeneration.
The Dual Wavelength Super Pulsing technology used by Theralase is the only laser that penetrates up to 4” into tissue, activating all three known cellular pathways:
1. Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) Pathway: Accelerates Healing
2. Nitric Oxide (NO) Pathway: Reduces Inflammation
3. Lipid Absorption Pathway: Decreases Pain
Laser Medical Benefits:
1. Rapid cell growth
2. Faster wound healing
3. Anti-inflammatory action
4. Reduced fibrous tissue formation
5. Increased metabolic activity
6. Increased vascular activity
7. Stimulate nerve function
How Do the Lasers Work? Theralase lasers work by supplying energy to the body in the form of billions of photons of light. The body absorbs the laser light on a cellular level and transforms it into chemical energy, which the body then uses to commence its own tissue repairs. The bio-stimulating effect of laser therapy causes a decrease in inflammation and pain and an increase in tissue repair.
Is the Laser Safe? Theralase lasers used for tissue stimulation have been approved for this purpose by Health Canada and the FDA. The laser emission is limited to levels well below those at which cell damage occurs (i.e. surgical lasers), so even if they were used 24 hours a day on your condition, they would not be able to harm you.
How Many Sessions Do I Need? Depending on the severity of your condition and your body’s natural healing rate, you may need between 5 and 20 sessions (acute conditions: 5 sessions, sub-acute: up to 10 sessions, and chronic conditions, up to 20 sessions). Each session may last between 8 and 15-20 minutes.
Research Facts: Over 3,000 clinical studies worldwide have proven the success of therapeutic lasers in the healing of neural muscular-skeletal conditions. Theralase has performed a blinded randomized controlled study on chronic knee pain proving the clinical safety and efficacy of the Theralase therapeutic laser technology and achieving FDA 510(k) approval.
